Freeview in the Cleveland area

Middlesbrough and surrounding areas are quite good at receiveing FREEVIEW with the exception of
Guisborough which is quite poor. There are two main Transmitters in the area, Bilsdale & Pontop Pike.
The Guisborough area is covered by a relay transmitter which does not yet have FREEVIEW or analogue Channel 5.

By 2012 analogue will be disconnected and digital only transmitters will be in operation. This should greatly improve the reception in the Guisborough area.

The other alternative is Freesat which gives you freeview channels via a satellite dish instead of an aerial. This is this option i personally use and i find works very well. Just give me a call for further information.

What is digital TV?

Digital Tv works like 'normal' Tv but the signal is
digital, not analogue, which means more channels can be transmitted and extra features
are available such as interactivity and  widescreen.

There are three kinds of digital Tv: digital terrestrial (FREEVIEW),digital cable
(Telewest/ntl) and digital satellite (Sky).

How do I get FREEVIEW?

You simply buy the freeview box"

This converts your existing
television to receive digital signals. The box
connects to your Tv and existing aerial socket.
You can also get FREEVIEW through an integrated digital television (iDTV) and
through an ITV Digital set-top box. Some viewers may need to upgrade their rooftop aerial. If you
currently receive digital TV with an adapter, an
iDTV or ITV Digital set-top box, you may need
to retune them to get the full range of FREEVIEW services.

What does FREEVIEW cost?

Watching FREEVIEW costs nothing – the channels you receive are free and there's no
contract. The box required to enable your television to receive Freeview is suprisingly inexpensive.

You can Telephone the FREEVIEW helpline on

FREEVIEW has also introduced an SMS text service to allow for quick and easy checking
of coverage availability. Customers can simply
text their postcode to 83331. Within 20 seconds a response will be sent back outlining
whether coverage is available in that area and
if the aerial needs to be checked to ensure
good digital reception.

This service is available on all major UK networks.Standard network charges apply.

Coverage

Most households in the UK are in a
FREEVIEW coverage area – around three
out of four households.
Out of three households in coverage,
two should be able to receive FREEVIEW
immediately, providing their aerial is in
good condition.
Out of three households in coverage,
one is likely to need an aerial upgrade
to receive FREEVIEW.
