Personal Video Recorders.

Summary.

Personal Video Recorders (PVR's) offer the ability to record digital FREEVIEW or FREESAT on a built in hard drive which means no tapes, DVD's or CD's. Most PVR's have built in Freeview and some have twin tuners which allow you to record one freeview channel and watch another side at the same time. Once you have recorded the programme on the hard drive you can always record it back onto a DVD recorder or VHS tape for archiving. Once the hard drive is full you can simply erase programmes and start again.

Key Considerations.

  • Hard Disk Size typically 80 or 160 Gig (40 or 80 hours)
  • Twin Tuners (record one side while watching the other)
  • EPG (Electronic Programme Guide)
  • Pause Live TV.

Conclusion.

PVR's are my personal favourite when it comes to recording FREEVIEW as i think they are more reliable than the other type of recorders. Hard drives are extremely reliable these days. Also you have no removable media so there is nothing to lose or scratch and the quality of the recorded picture is superb. You can simply erase one or all of the recorded programmes and start again. Virtually all PVR's have an electronic programme guide so you can find the programme you want to record, hit the record button and hey presto!!  when the programme starts it records it, No times or dates to mess around with. These have to be the simplest form of recorder ever.
